Heidi Moore

Personal:
Heidi has been an elite athlete for many years and has medaled in Junior National Championships as early as 1988 and Senior National Championships in 1996. In June 2000, she married Scott Moore, USA's first-ever Paralympic gold medalist (Sydney). In 2002, Heidi decided to retire and start a family. Her son, Jordan, was born on Christmas Day, 2003.
In the spring of 2004, Heidi decided to go back to competition "for fun." A bronze medal at the National Championships in April of 2004 brought her into the Olympic Trials as the #3 seeded athlete. Heidi dominated the division, winning both of her matches by Ippon, the judo equivalent of a knockout in boxing while nursing her five-month old son between matches. Unfortunately for Heidi, the USA was not qualified for the Olympics at +78 kilograms, but the division was contested at the trials as a contingency in case a Pan American allocation opened, but it did not. In 2005, Moore competed on her first World Championship Team. She moved down to 78kg for part of the 2006 season before moving back up to heayweight where she won a silver medal at the 2007 Nationals as well as the Open division title.
Heidi won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Judo in 2008, but again the United States had not qualified to send a representative to the Games in the division.
